REPERTORY/ L'Orfeo

Nominated for 3 Laurence Olivier Awards in 1999:
- Best New Opera Production
- Outstanding Achievement in Opera
- Outstanding Achievement in Dance

L'Orfeo was first performed before the Accademia degl'Invaghiti on February 24, 1607 in a now unidentifiable room in the ducal palace at Mantua, and was published in Venice in 1609. The opera saw its modern debut on February 25, 1904 in a concert version in Paris directed by Vincent d'Indy. The action is based on the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus, who attempts to rescue his dead lover Eurydice from Hades, the underworld. (Info taken from Wikipedia)
