Set and Reset: View from the Archive

Join us November 6th as we peer into Trisha Brown’s “Set and Reset” (1983). This lecture demonstration will expand our understanding of the interworking structures, thanks to newly available archival materials provided by the Trisha Brown Archives. Having been performed all over the world for nearly 40 years, we’ll uncover and share the moments that make up this seminal work. The evening will include a full studio performance of “Set and Reset,” and demonstrations of the various structures within it. Whether seeing this work for the first time, or for the hundredth time, this evening will offer insights and an intimate knowledge of Trisha’s process that will make you fall in love with this masterpiece all over again!

“Set and Reset: View from the Archive” will take place at 7:30pm at the Mark Morris Dance Center (MMDC), Duffy Studio, located at 3 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn. Watermotor (1978) receives two Bessie Award nominations

On August 11, 2021, nominations were announced for the 37th Annual New York Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies. Marc Crousillat's performance of Watermotor has earned a nomination for Outstanding Performer and Outstanding Revival. Huge congratulations to Marc, Associate Artistic Director Carolyn Lucas, and Filmmaker Daniel Madoff for their work bringing Watermotor to life this past spring!

"Crousillat, with his shaggy hair and powerful limbs, cuts an impressive figure as he brings his own sense of unruliness to the solo, which was inspired by imagery from Brown’s childhood. In it, he is impulsive — prancing, galloping and kicking a leg forward with force only to let it settle into its weight as it falls." - Gia Kourlas, The New York Times

Congratulations, not only, to all the nominees but to all artists who continued to create during the last year. Thank you to the Bessie committee for these nominations!

The award ceremony will be livestreamed on Monday, October 11, 2021, at 7:30PM EST. Reservations for the ceremony will be available starting September 20, through donation
